I've loved DOMINO'S for quite a long time now.

You know, since the time when we actually

called Pizzas by their full names:

PIZZA PIES.

My family has quite the bond with Domino's too.

My Cousin Larry

(no, we're not the Perfect Strangers sitcom characters)

opened a Domino's in our hometown of San Fernando, Pampanga

back in the late-1990s. And even after a particularly violent

lahar flow from the slopes of Pinatubo caused massive flooding

in our province and submerged his Domino's

neck-deep, ovens and all,

soon, he was back in business,

providing Pampanga with the precious pies.

Until...

one sad day, all the Domino's Pizza restaurants in the Philippines

disappeared. Poof! Gone just like that. Some sort of problem

with the former Franchisor and the local Franchisees.

And boy, did we miss our pies.

Not even the "angels" were

able to compensate...

... until this man came along,

and thundered, "Let there be Pizza!"

Meet Mr. Tong Hong

and his lovely wife, Bu Rim Lee.

Mr. Tong grew up in the United States,

and literally, worked his way up the Domino's chain,

rising from delivery crew to owning his own restaurants.

He's a man who knows and loves his Pizza,

and lives, breathes, and of course, eats it as well.

He relocated to the Philippines to share his piece of the pie,

and together with his partners from Goldilocks,

they are ready to reclaim pizza Dominance for Domino's!

The pies are as good as I remember them.

Exactly ten years ago, right after EDSA II,

Gen. Angie Reyes
was the most beloved, most admired man in the land,
second only perhaps to then Chief Justice Hilario Davide.

The Chief of Staff
seemed to be the epitome of an Officer and a Gentleman.

I still remember how Gen. Reyes fought back tears
when he had to escort Erap out of Malacanang a decade ago.

I pray that something good
will come out of the General's tragic passing.

I would like to think of him as he was in 2001, a hero and a patriot,
rather than the broken, defeated man he was in his final days.

How does GMA figure in all this?

It seems Gen. Reyes's fall
coincided with her rise.

He was Hamlet, and
GMA, his Queen.

"blind item" about a certain "BBB"

that effectively put into question every food blogger's motives.

A good friend of mine got pilloried,

yet in her ff-up, Ms. Salcedo conveniently ignores this fact.

At the very least,

she should have made clarifications and

cleared the bloggers who were unfairly accused.

Isn't that what real journalists are supposed to do,

present both sides of the story?

Instead, in her follow-up column today, Margaux

"spins" her cutesy expose' into a pompous declaration.

It's almost impossible to find a real hero

in our country these days; when one surfaces,

that person deserves nothing less than our full support.

Our soldiers, specially those out in the frontlines,

those in the field, in constant danger from insurgents

and terrorists; the same soldiers who barely have enough

food to survive day to day; the same soldiers who would gladly

sacrifice their lives for the nation, yet aren't even provided with

the basic necessities like medicines, uniforms and boots, and bullets.

It seems that many of their top commanders,

have been playing a most sinister game: much of the AFP funds

is not spent for the troops' needs, but rather,

is saved for the Games of the Generals.

Game Over.

One lady, singlehandedly, with zero fear,

armed only with an unswerving dedication

to expose the corruption that rots our military,

has come forward to document the general graft.

Her extreme personal and professional sacrifice is epic.

Like our soldiers out in the war zones, she is truly heroic.

shook the Pinoy Food Blogging community awake
with this piece from the Sunday Inquirer magazine:

since Margaux's article was essentially
a foodie version of a Ricky Lo blind item,

the bloggers, gregarious by nature,
just had to guess who her "Big Bad Blogger" was,

and most assumed that BBB slyly referred to
was the most popular food blogger in the country,
my kumpare, Anton Diaz of OAP, Our Awesome Planet.

What followed on the discussion boards on
Facebook, Twitter, Plurk, and on the more popular blogs,
was nothing short of an embarrassment for our blogging community.

So many people, without any evidence, just got on the bandwagon,
and like brainless viruses, infected and inflicted my friend
with all sorts of allegations and even some very
pompous "I told you so" statements.

Anak ng Aligue naman....

Food Blogging is, at best, subjective.

It's all a matter of taste.

And this whole brouhaha now reeks of bad taste:

Margaux's article cast aspersions and doubts
practically on every popular blogger;

her article, ripe with "MAYBE"s and assumptions and hypotheses,
would have better served the Pinoy Blogosphere
if she had just named names.

And so the guessing game continued,
all the while, hurting innocent people by innuendo.

Carlos Celdran, in his inimitable manner, did the right thing,
and asked the blunt question on everyone's mind,

and our Awesome Anton,
often the "usual suspect" in these blind items,
quietly, maturely, simply stated that he's not BBB and moved on.

And unless we have proof, or until Margaux names names,
the curious bloggers (and readers) should all do the same.

First,
it's got the same iconic theme music,
and since thirty years have passed since
the original show (1968-1980) ended its run,
the theme now has a pounding "house" backbeat,
but it still somehow sounds exactly the same. . .

because some of the original musicians are the very
same ones performing this tricked out millennium edition!

Second,

the show retained all the legacy characters:
from the awesome Steve McGarrett to "book 'em" Dano.

Some surprises are in store though: Kono is now a hot chick!!!

And she's played by gorgeous "Boomer" from Battlestar Galactica:
Grace Park, the actress whose name sounds like a 'burb in Caloocan.

Third,
Daniel Dae Kim from LOST
is back in Hawaii (!) for this new show.

Somehow, I don't think he's really complaining.

Fourth,
Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan as the new
versions of partners Steve McGarrett and Dano,

have the sleekest and funniest "buddy" chemistry
since Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in "48 HOURS"!

This new H50 is a funny as "Chuck", and as violent
as "The Shield". How's that for a wild combination?

Fifth,
with all the FILIPINOS living in Hawaii,
it's only a matter of time until this show
features a recurring character from the Philippines;
(a la Charice's "Sunshine Corazon" from GLEE)

this week's episode finally featured PINOYS on the Big Island;
unfortunately, they were Pinoy Terrorists from Luzon (!)...

who kidnapped the daughter of
the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines:

the villain had a surname that sounded like ARROYO,
and was played by the former football coach of GLEE.

It would have been perfect if they casted DICK ISRAEL!!!

the opening credits don't just use the same great music,
it's also a homage to the images of Hawaii that were

Thanks to the great folk over at Columbia Pictures,
I was able to catch a (very) advanced screening
of a movie I've been looking forward to
ever since I found out about it...

The film was even better than I anticipated;
so good, in fact, that I had to share my impressions
on another favorite social network of mine:

led by punk-traitor-genius-billionaire Mark Zuckerberg,
felt about their own creation.

At first, they didn’t really know what it was,
or what it was going to be.

A History Lesson

from my friends Alvin, Jay, and Mervin:

Sixta Evangelista Ongpauco, fondly known as "Mama Chit",

had a love of family, and a love of cooking that was legendary.

The popularity of her food among loved ones grew and grew,

until she finally was convinced to open, in Caloocan City,

way back in 1958, on that road formerly known as Highway 54,

her home to the public, as the very first "Barrio Fiesta".

Thanks to her and her restaurant, the pairing of Kare-Kare

But somehow, we forgot about this restaurant past decade or so;
